Characters
- Milan K: Kind but strong willed. His father was arrested in Russia when he was a child. When his family is killed in a plane crash, he and his bodyguard, Igor flee to Los Angeles. Igor trains him and they have a strong father/son bond. When Milan’s cover is blown they are attacked by Russian President Palin’s men. Igor ends up in the hospital and Milan has no way to pay for his surgery. Milan realizes his father left him clues to find money he had hidden for him. But it won’t be easy to get, he’ll have to rely on a savvy businesswoman and lawyer to help him. Once he gets access to the money, Milan is recruited by the Siloviki to help save Russia and assassinate Palin. Headstrong and cunning Milan gets President Palin to sign a deal with him instead, effectively winning the battle against him. He will now hunt down the treasure his father left behind in order to fight the world’s dictators. While still idealistic, we begin to see how being exposed to the real world and the actions he had to take to achieve his goals are starting to weigh on him.
- Igor: Steadfast and loyal. Milan’s bodyguard since he was a child. He keeps Milan safe for many years until he is incapacitated and Milan has to find a way to pay for his medical treatment. He is a firm, protective father figure to Milan.
- President Palin: He eliminates his enemies at any cost. He wants to kill Milan but his advisors say they should keep him alive to lead them to his father’s fortune. Power hungry, vindictive, and cunning.
- Kim: Clever, jealous and hot headed. She helps Milan with his bearer shares and he promotes her to be the new director of his company, as the job she was working was well beneath her capabilities. She and Milan have a relationship. Milan pays for her to go to Harvard Law.
- Meera: a smart and collected lawyer who helps Milan when he needs it most in order to get the funds from his bearer shares to pay for Igor’s operation.
- Mr. Rugovic: the head of Broad Co. Asshole, more concerned about saving himself, does not want to give up the money to Milan.
- Mrs. Penhilton: the person who really runs Broad Co. Savvy, knows how to play office politics, ally to Milan.
- Anton Nikolaevitch: recruits Milan to help the Siloviki and try to assassinate President Palin. Family man who is working for the greater good.
- Andrei Khodorov: Milan’s father. He tells Milan “family stories” which really are clues to where his wealth is hidden.
- Isabella: Milan’s high school girlfriend. He leaves her a gift including his father’s family stories which he plans to retrieve at the end of the story.
Book Plot/Twist
He would become one of the world's wealthiest men, dedicated to fighting for the oppressed, the ones lacking voice or power. But his tactics would prove far different from that of the charities and other humanitarian organizations of his time. He was to wage a ruthless war, fraught with great victories and just as great defeats.
Misha is a nice rich Russian kid going to boarding school. He has friends, a girlfriend Isabella, and even though his dad is in jail he gets to video chat with him and hear his “family stories.” When Misha’s family is killed in a plane crash, his bodyguard Igor gets them to safety in Los Angeles where they assume new identities. “Matt’s” cover is blown which leads to Igor being in the hospital. Misha assumes the identity of “Milan.” He doesn’t have the funds to pay for Igor’s surgery but realizes the family stories his dad told him were actually clues that can lead him to part of his dad’s fortune. But the money won’t be so easy to get. Thankfully a businesswoman, Kim and a lawyer, Meera are able to help him get what is rightfully his. Along the way he is recruited by the Siloviki to help Russia and attempt to assassinate President Palin who has been trying to hunt down Milan. Milan is able to stop President Palin and saves Igor. Milan decides he will find the other treasures his father hid for him and use it to fight the world’s dictators.
